Used Wheelchair
Wheelchair is not advisable for resale. Wheelchairs are not just similar to our everyday clothes that can fit to anybody. It requires collective information of a doctor, therapist, equipment provider and potential user to guarantee that an appropriate piece of equipment is suited to the user.

From the word itself, it is exactly mean that way. A used wheelchair cannot hundred percent meet the user's need. There are many factors that may affect the durability of the used wheelchair and it cannot adjust to the new user's weight, width, terrain, physical limitations and capabilities, etc.

Wheelchairs are not just similar to our everyday clothes that can fit to anybody. It requires collective information of a doctor, therapist, equipment provider and potential user to guarantee that an appropriate piece of equipment is suited to the user. That is why wheelchair is not advisable to be resale. Yes it is expensive to buy new equipment so we are finding way for cheaper alternatives like used wheelchairs. It is considerable as long as we are concerned with the capacity of the used mobility can give to the individual. Second-hand wheelchairs don't have transferable warranty. If warranty is not expired for the previous user, that will not be applicable to the next users. By this way, sure mobility equipment is being used by the proper individuals.

Be a careful buyer. The most difficult part in buying used chair is to know its condition, especially powerchairs. Online purchasing and marketing is on the tract. If ever you viewed photos, please do ask few photos from all four sides and request one of the inside battery box (corrosion is a sure sign that the chair has not been maintained). Chair's exterior's condition reflects its interior condition. Signs of abuse: chair's joystick bracket is bent, upholstery is torn, and frame and forks are scuffed, defective bearings, electronics, and motors. You can bet the rest of the chair is trashed.

If you're lucky enough to inspect a powerchair in person, check the drive shafts where they exit the motors.  Most chairs will have a small ring of grease and dirt where the shaft enters the motors, but if there's an excess of gunk on the shaft and outside motor housing, the chair's probably been through heavy use with poor maintenance.  Also, check the joystick housing; if it's worn in anyway, you know that chair has been through a lot of use. Often little clues make up the big picture.

Unless a person can show you a receipt that the powerchair's batteries were recently purchased, assume that the batteries are bad, and replace them.  In fact, if the chair must be shipped, your best bet is to have the seller ship the chair without batteries, dramatically reducing freight charges. If you find a used chair you like, but are unfamiliar with the model, do your homework and read up on it.  Most of the powerchairs made in the last 5 years are still in production, so you can surf the manufacturers' web sites to find detailed information.  Also, talk to friends who have the chair, and find out the real scoop from someone who uses it.
